



Original one-of-a-kind painting by Jean-Louis Toutain (French, 1948-2008). A whimsical circus scene beneath a striped big top, with a ringmaster, snails, and a reclining figure on a trapeze swing overhead. Signed lower right (see photos). Jean-Louis Toutain (French, 1948-2008), born in Toulouse. He trained at the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse from age 14 and apprenticed in ceramics, then worked across theater, advertising, architecture, and industrial design before dedicating himself fully to painting and sculpture at 39. His work centers on a recurring, rounded human figure rendered in a whimsical, contemporary style, influenced by Fernando Botero, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Henry Moore. He received the Medaille Ouvriers de France in 1991.
